Steps to Achieving the Goal
Initial Phase: Train the children to learn to ride unicycles and master basic skills within three months.
Mid-term Phase: Gradually increase the training to challenge distances of 5 km, 10 km, and 50 km.
Final Phase: Challenge distances of 100 to 200 km.
Ultimate Challenge --- Approximately "2,000 km" around Peninsular Malaysia
Date: 2012 (Scheduled for July to August, with a total duration of 45 to 50 days)
"For the children, this is a rare experience and an immense challenge to their physical endurance and willpower." Our four main "Circumnavigation Goals" are:
1. To embody the spirit of "1Malaysia"
2. To promote an environmentally-friendly lifestyle and love for our environment and the Earth.
3. To raise awareness for the underprivileged in society
4. To publicize the "Green Smile Nature Farm Project" project
Through the unicycle activity, we aim to train the children to face setbacks with courage, to stand up again after falling, to foster independence, confidence, and a spirit of perseverance in facing difficulties, to enhance their balance, intelligence, and physical fitness.
The children at Care Haven are like "solo fliers," without parents by their side for support. The unicycle is much the same, with only one wheel and no handlebars to rely on, so they must depend on themselves to create a world of their own. This is why friends are so important to them, learning to be emotionally independent and strong is essential, and learning to support one another is equally important. This is precisely the greatest life gift that Pastor Tham Ah King wants to give to the children.
Care Haven Children's Home Promotes Unicycle Sports
The Japanese discovered early on that unicycle sports could bring numerous benefits to their children. As a result, unicycle riding has long been included as one of the mandatory options in Japanese elementary school physical education classes. In fact, most children in Japan start learning to ride unicycles in kindergarten. However, in Europe and the United States, unicycles are not only used for leisure, off-road activities, and entertainment but also as a means of transportation. So, why do we want the children at our centre to learn to ride unicycles? What is the significance behind this?

Unicycle sports will bring many benefits to the children. It not only helps with their physical health but also has a significant impact on their mental well-being. Through the tool of the unicycle, we can help the children rediscover themselves, learn independence, and let go of the shadows of their past. Learning to ride a unicycle is quite challenging; it requires continuous effort to gradually master the skill. Through this powerful experience, the children will learn that their greatest reliance in life is not on their parents or others but on the successful experiences they have gained throughout their journey!
Where you fall is where you stand back up
This November, when the kind-hearted Uncle Calvin Teoh agreed to Rev. Thhm Ah King's request and donated 39 unicycles to the Care Haven family, you could see wheels spinning around the children's home every evening.
The unicycle has only one wheel and no handlebars, much like the children at Care Haven and the Youth Academy, who have no relatives by their side to support them. Everything depends on their own ability to stand up on their own.
Mastering the skill of riding a unicycle requires facing the challenge of falling more than a hundred times. You must courageously confront the same wound again, even before the bleeding wound has healed. Do you have the courage to endure falling? Do you have the strength to embrace the courage to stand back up where you fell?
